This project was developed to provide a best practice document for stock crate design together for the air export industry, along with recommendations for a system of self-regulation of stock crate design and manufacture to ensure the quality of stock crates.
As a result of several incidents relating to stock crate failure before, during and after livestock transportation by air, the livestock export industry was facing pressure to improve livestock crate performance.
This research assisted in reducing regulatory concerns about the safety and welfare of livestock being transported by air. It also provided improved design and construction techniques for the air export industry to ensure animal welfare and allow continual trade.
