Since 2013, the livestock export industry has progressed the development of meaningful and comprehensive indicators to monitor animal welfare outcomes on livestock export vessels.

This summary highlights the development of the animal welfare indicators, as well as the establishment of the Shipboard Animal Welfare Surveillance (SAWS) Committee, to fast-track the adoption of those indicators.
