Air freight allows licenced livestock exporters to deliver Australian livestock anywhere in the world, safely and quickly. However, it presents some unique challenges.
Confinement of livestock in crates, in the controlled atmosphere environment of an aircraft hold, is very different from the conditions encountered when livestock are transported on land or by sea. Careful planning and attention to detail throughout export preparation and delivery are needed to protect animal welfare and ensure a successful commercial outcome.
This manual is intended as a guide for livestock exporters, aircraft stock attendants and others involved in the air freight livestock export chain. It sets out current best practice procedures for exporting livestock by air, based on practical hands-on industry experience.
