As the livestock export industry continues to evolve, there are some things that don’t change: the passion of people working in the industry and their care for the animals; demand for healthy, quality Australian cattle, sheep and goats; and the industry’s contribution to nutrition and food security in destination markets.
This edition of Ruminations provides an insight into the lives of people working on ships, in abattoirs overseas, at universities, and with our international trading partners. They’re all contributing to continuous improvements in animal welfare which have seen record low shipboard mortality rates in recent years and overseas governments developing standards based upon Australian practices.
