ESCAS review and support

Summary

A strong and effective regulator administering evidence-based regulation is crucial for supporting community trust in the livestock export sector. The regulatory framework for livestock exports is complex and subject to continuing review to ensure it is fit for purpose.

The Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) is being reviewed in 2025 and this project aims to provide technical contributions to support industry bodies with submissions to help in delivering regulatory reform.

It will also help to design and cost potential services required to fulfil the ongoing need for efficient and continued welfare and ESCAS compliance support in key markets.

This project is managed by the Livestock Export RD&E Program, a collaboration between LiveCorp and Meat & Livestock Australia.

Objectives
  • Develop technical materials and submissions for LiveCorp/the Livestock Export Program regarding the ESCAS review.

  • Assess the industry’s ongoing need for ESCAS compliance support in-market, including reviewing materials, proposals, and consulting with stakeholders to identify beneficial services for the next five years.

  • Ensure that both the regulatory review process and industry engagement are well-supported by expert technical and administrative resources.

Benefits to industry

Technical contributions to the regulatory review will support improvements in both the regulatory framework and industry compliance, helping to ensure the long-term sustainability of the livestock export sector.
